In short, every citizen has the ethical obligation to the community to equip himself with a firearm and maybe a couple of days worth of ammunition. I would never, though, support any regulation or law that bans or penalizes an individual for possessing whatever amount that they see fit as everyone is in different situation. Homes in sparsely populated rural areas or near regions with a high violent crime rate, for example, would certainly need more than the average single-family home. Ultimately, it is the decision of the individual to determine how he spends his money and how many boxes are stored in his home.
Today, I experienced my first real taste of what the Left has caused to happen in the firearm and ammunition market. I secured the time of a certified trainer to conduct my pistol qualification for a retired officer firearms carry permit on this Monday. Although I had heard and read several reports of stores literally being cleaned out of firearms and ammunition not commonly used for, say, hunting and skeet shooting, I never imagined that I would be unable to purchase a measly two boxes of nine millimeter ammunition in order to be tested.
I tried no less than five local dealers, all of which had no ammunition of that type available. Only one had two boxes in stock, but these were of the type that are designed for defense use, much more expensive than ball-type ammunition and not a prudent choice to spend on hitting targets to prove that your eyes, hands,and proficiency have not diminished.
Here we are.
We have elected and appointed officials who, by their actions and words, have made it clear that they have every intention of outlawing or severely restricting the private ownership of firearms and the acquisition of the ammunition that is necessary if the former if it is going to be used for anything other than a paperweight.
Our nation was created with the basic understanding that the prohibition of privately owned guns would never be an issue, but we have people in seats of real power and influence who salivate at the thought of doing just that. The consequence of this is stores that can do little more than order ammunition and guns that never get past backorder status.
Between the massive ammunition purchases made by the Department Of Homeland Security and the panicked public, the average buyer is stuck.
Two inherently legal products have, by the words and actions of the Left, been rendered into precious commodities.
I can't even shoot what I do have at the range for fear of being unable to replace what I used.
People are in panic mode due to their fears that they will no longer be able to purchase these items. I don't blame them for feeling this way. The inhuman desires of those who subscribe to the Leftist/Statist have made this situation possible. Think about it - we have reached a low point that has never been approached before. Sure, there have been times when certain items were in great demand, such as higher-capacity magazines at the time of the 1994 "assault weapons" ban, but nothing compares to what we have been experiencing since the slaughter in Sandy Hook and its political aftermath.
I shudder to think about how many regular people have been made to feel as if they have been backed up against a wall. There is no way that the ammunition has been getting bought up by preppers, no, this phenomena is the work of average Joes and Janes who have been made aware that totalitarians have a tremendous amount of power and influence in our nation and that they have every intention of using these.
They won't be content with leaving the US to live in a nation in which the people are defenceless and at the mercy of the army and police. They would not even be satisfied with the creation of gun-free states that provide life sentences for transporting a firearm into those states.
In short, as I have noted previously, being able to live in a Leftist and all-controlling state is not their goal. Their goal is ensuring that you do not get to live in a state that is not Leftist and all-controlling.
They work tirelessly to abolish what are not only our Constitutional rights, but also the basic right of all people under the Natural Law:
-We have vicious Senators such as Diane "...Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in, I would have done it." Feinstein.
-We have Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsburg who has admitted to taking international law into account in cases of purely domestic concern. She has clearly implied that our Constitution is obsolete and that the US does not have an independent judiciary. What she means by independent is the authority of judges to make laws, which our court is of course not supposed to do but has actually assumed for itself so I have no idea what her complaint is.
-Justice Sotomayor, who explicitly states that judges make policy then pretended, in a mocking manner, to take that statement back, joined with Bader-Ginsburg with the following dissent:

Recall that it was Sotomayor who told us that a ":Wise Latina" would do a better job as a justice than all those previously gleaned from other groups of people and gender. Eureka! We have finally found the solution; for two centuries we have been looking in the wrong place for Supreme Court Justices! All this time we could have been scouring Latin American for all of their Wise Latinas. Why, the place must be chock full of these types, and it certainly shows in their systems of government and society. How could we have not seen what was right under our noses? Latin America could be doing the world a great favor by enlisting volunteer brigades of Wise Latinas to go to every nation of the world to fix things.
(For the record, the preceding was written only to draw attention to Sotomayor's arrogance and utter lack of respect for those who previously sat in her place. Her remark was racist and belittling of the accomplishments of many former Justices)
Note that if one more conservative Justice dies or retires, Obama will appoint another anti-gun Justice. District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago will be overturned.
-The current occupant of the White House is reported by a very reputable person as stating that he does not believe that people should be allowed to own guns.
There are of course many more, but the point is that we are under siege, and all that people are doing is hoarding items rather than organizing to put a stop to this madness. I assert again that our only hope is to create a restored American Republic out of the few states Left who would not elect or appoint people such as the above to positions of power.
